Spectator Policy
MizzouRec welcomes spectators to watch a variety of programs and events held in our facilities. Spectators are not eligible to utilize the facility and are responsible for conducting themselves in accordance with the MizzouRec Facility Guidelines. Failure to abide by these guidelines can result in removal from the facility and impact future access.
MizzouRec is proud to partner with local groups and campus organizations to serve as the host site for a variety of events and reservations. While the admission policies for these private events are set by the organizer, MizzouRec does use the following entrances for access:
- Aquatic Center – All attendees for aquatic events and reservations are to enter and exit the Aquatic Mezzanine through the Southeast Entrance.
- Sport Courts – All non-member attendees for events taking place on the sport courts should enter and exit through the North Events Entrance, located on Rollins Street directly across from the Student Center. Members may enter through the Southeast or West Entrances with valid identification.
MizzouRec welcomes spectators to tournaments and games featuring our Club Sports and Mizzou Wheelchair Basketball programs.
- All non-member spectators should enter and exit through the North Events Entrance, located on Rollins Street directly across from the Student Center, where they will be given a spectator wristband for the duration of the event.
- All members may enter through the Southeast or West Entrances with valid identification. Members who choose to enter through the North Events Entrance will not be able to access the rest of the building without exiting the North Events Entrance and showing valid identification at the Southeast or West Entrance.
To attend an indoor Intramural Sports event as a non-member, an active Intramural Sports participant must sponsor your entrance and register for a Spectator Pass. Those with a Spectator Pass are only allowed to watch the event they are registered for and are not allowed to use any other features of MizzouRec. Sponsoring members are responsible for the actions of their spectators and access may be restricted for any spectator who violates MizzouRec policies. Additionally, the MizzouRec member may be subject to MizzouRec and University of Missouri conduct action. To register for an Intramural Sports Spectator Pass:
- Intramural Sports participants must fill out the form on the website by 3 p.m. the day of the game, or by 3pm on Fridays for weekend games. To complete the form, you will need the following information:
- Spectator’s Name & Email
- 3-7-22
- Spectator’s Date of Birth
- Member’s Name
- Sport
- Team Name
- Date and Time of the Game
- Spectators should arrive no more than 15 minutes before the scheduled game time, entering the building through the Southeast Entrance and checking in at the Member & Guest Services Desk. To check in, spectators need to:
- Provide photo ID with date of birth on ID.
- Be 18 years or older.
- For spectator requests including someone under 18, they must be accompanied by someone 18 or older with a valid membership or spectator pass, not including the sponsoring participant.
- Put on wristband provided at Member & Guest Services Desk
- Spectators should exit the building within 15 minutes after the game has ended. To exit, spectators must:
- Check out at the Member & Guest Services desk
- Remove the spectator wristband at the Member & Guest Services Desk.
- Exit the building through the Southeast Entrance.
Facilities
- All General Guidelines for MizzouRec applies to all Aquatic spaces in addition to the following.
- Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff has final authority on all matters in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
- In case of emergency, the Emergency Action Plan is activated by one long whistle blast from a Lifeguard. All patrons are required to exit the pool immediately and follow instructions from Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff.
- Patrons with contagious skin diseases, infections or open sores, or who have had diarrhea within the last two weeks are discouraged to use the pools for health concerns. Bandages are discouraged in pools.
- Glass objects are strictly prohibited: This includes masks with glass faceplates.
- Showers are encouraged before entering any body of water to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Use of any part of the Mizzou Aquatic Center is prohibited unless supervised by a lifeguard.
- Proper swimming attire is required in all Mizzou Aquatic Center bodies of water unless prior approval of an exception has been granted. Proper swim attire is defined as clothing that is designed for use in the water; specific item examples are listed below for reference. Swimwear may not be transparent and must not indecently expose parts of the body.
- Items made of material that is designed for use in the water that are allowed:
- Women’s one and two piece bathing suits
- Men’s Jammers or Speedo
- Board Shorts/Swim Trunks
- Rash Guards
- Religious swim wear (Ex. Burkini)
- Items listed below are not allowed to be worn in the water at the aquatic facilities:
- Athletic shorts and pants (Ex. Running, Basketball, Volleyball, Yoga etc.)
- Undergarments (Ex. Sports Bras, Underwear, Compression Shorts, Boxers, Briefs, etc.)
- Clothing with grommets (Ex. Denim, Khaki shorts or pants, etc.)
- Cotton Shirts (Ex. T-Shirts, tank tops, etc.)
- Items made of material that is designed for use in the water that are allowed:
- To maintain safety, the Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff may require patrons to demonstrate swimming ability.
- Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are permitted. Lifejackets are available upon request.
- Lane usage is permitted only during posted hours in designated lanes.
- Lap swimmers should swim in a counterclockwise, circular pattern to allow shared usage. Lap swimming in the diving well is permitted only during posted hours in designated lanes.
- Starting block are for the sole use of approved groups.
- Diving is not permitted in the 50M pool or Tiger Grotto. All individuals must use a feet-first entry. In the diving well, diving from the side is permitted in designated lap lane areas only or in other parts as determined by the Mizzou Aquatic Center staff. Tower and diving boards are for approved group/event use only.
- Swimming under the bulkhead is prohibited. Patrons should not walk across the bulkhead while it is centered in the pool.
- Outside of emergency need, hanging onto lane lines is discouraged.
- Nose blowing and spitting in the pool or gutters is prohibited.
- Voluntary hyperventilation prior to underwater swimming and underwater breath holding are dangerous activities and can lead to unconsciousness and death during dives. Swimmers are prohibited from engaging in hyperventilation prior to either practice.
- Water polo or other water games, which require the use of a ball, are not permitted in any of the Mizzou Aquatic Center bodies of water without prior authorization from the Mizzou Aquatic Center staff.
- Tennis balls, footballs, hard balls, squirt guns, etc. are prohibited in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
- Running, horseplay or other dangerous activities are not permitted in any areas of the Mizzou Aquatic Center
- Only MizzouRec TigerSwim lessons or other prior approved instructional lessons are permitted in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
- Footwear is required outside of the pool decks, aquatic hallways and locker rooms.
- following repeated or egregious occurrences.
- Exercise is not permitted in the dry sauna or steam room.
- Proper swimwear, lightweight/athletic attire that will not be damaged or cause an aroma under high temperatures, cotton t-shirts and athletic shorts, water shoes and flip flop type shoes are allowed in the dry sauna and steam room. Sweaters, sauna suites, excessive or constrictive clothing and street shoes are not permitted in these areas.
- It is recommended that patrons sit on a town in the sauna and steam room.
- Individuals with health problems, who are pregnant, or who are taking medication should consult their physician before using the dry sauna, steam room or hot tub.
- For safety, it is recommended that use of the dry sauna, steam room or hot tub not occur immediately after strenuous exercise.
- Use of the dry sauna and steam room should be limited to no more than 15 minutes.
- It is recommended that members consume plenty of fluids before and after dry sauna and/or steam room use.
- Pouring water on or tending the sauna rocks is prohibited, dangerous and damaging as these are electric units.
- Failure to comply with Mizzou Aquatic Center required or prohibited guidelines may result in removal from the Mizzou Aquatic Center, suspension or termination of MizzouRec membership.
In addition to MizzouRec’ s General Guidelines, the following guidelines are to be followed in Strength Training room and Cardio Gallery.
- Avoid sitting on weight machines or benches during resting periods. “Work-in” with others on all strength equipment to optimize the usage of this area.
- Do not drop weights. Collars/clips are recommended when using barbells.
- Barbells must stay within the rack.
- Disinfect each piece of equipment after use with the wipes provided.
- All weights must be re-racked and may not be removed from their original location.
- The use of chalk or any other lifting substance is prohibited.
- Leaning weights along windows, walls, and mirrors is prohibited.
- Throwing medicine balls against the walls and floors is prohibited.
- Personal training or private instruction is limited to MizzouRec certified staff.
- Use personal equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions and at your own risk.
- Personal equipment must not mark or damage any facilities or equipment.
Track Direction
M/W/F/SAT = Counterclockwise
T/TH/SUN = Clockwise
In addition to MizzouRec’s General Guidelines, the following guidelines are to be followed on the Indoor Track and Track Balcony.
- Walkers use inside lanes. Runners use outside lanes.
- Medicine balls, kettlebells, and dumbbells are allowed on the track.
- Walking lunges are permitted in the walking lane only.
- Disinfect each piece of equipment after use with the wipes provided.
- All equipment must be re-racked and may not be removed from its original location.
- The track and track balcony are not a spectator area for events below.
- Gum is prohibited in the entire space.
- Food and drink are prohibited at the gaming stations.
- Clean up after yourself.
- Keep belongings out of the way of others.
- Only play games on the pre-approved list.
- Do not utilize web browsers.
- There is a 2 hour time limit during free play, when there is a waitlist.
- Be respectful of people and the space.
In addition to MizzouRec’s General Guidelines, the following guidelines are to be followed in the Racket Sport Courts.
- Courts may be reserved at services.mizzourec.com at least 24 hours in advance.
- Courts are available on a first come, first served basis.
- Eyewear and wrist straps are recommended for racquet sport play.
- Only staff-approved activities are acceptable in this space. Activities which risk damage to the court floors, walls, or ceilings are expressly prohibited.
In addition to MizzouRec’s General Guidelines, the following guidelines are to be followed for Stankowski Complex (Sand Courts, Turf, and Track).
- Animals, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed on the turf.
- Possession, use, distribution, purchase, or sale of drugs or alcohol is prohibited in accordance with the University’s Drugs & Alcohol Standards of Conduct. Goals are to remain locked outside of MizzouRec programs and activities. Stankowski Complex will remain closed when covered with snow or ice.
- Removal of snow and ice is prohibited.
- Space may be used for private events. Please stay out of designated areas and be respectful of those activities.
- Possession, use, distribution, purchase, or sale of drugs or alcohol is prohibited in accordance with the University’s Drugs & Alcohol Standards of Conduct. Goals are to remain locked outside of MizzouRec programs and activities. Stankowski Complex will remain closed when covered with snow or ice.
- Prohibited equipment, activities and items include:
- Metal spikes
- Sunflower seeds
- Gum
- Food
- Glass containers of any type
- Mopeds, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and motorized personal vehicles that are not medically necessary
- Folding chairs, canopies, tables, and anything that can be staked down
- Fence climbing & activities that can damage the fences
- Hanging or attaching equipment to the fences
- Unauthorized drone usage
- Sports & activities which could damage the turf. Examples include but are not limited to golf, cricket, tennis, etc.
- Any potentially damaging objects or activities without prior approval.
In addition to MizzouRec’s General Guidelines, the following guidelines are to be followed in the Outdoor Fitness Space.
- Footwear is required. All shoes must be activity appropriate and have non-marking soles; shoes must be closed-toe and have a covered heel; no boots.
- All weights must be re-racked and may not be removed from their original location.
- Disinfect each piece of equipment after use with the wipes provided.
- Sport equipment is prohibited.
- Use personal equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions and at your own risk.
- Personal equipment must not mark or damage any facilities or equipment.
- Personal training or private instruction is limited to MizzouRec certified staff.
- All Olympic barbells should be used only on the Olympic platforms.
- Do not drop weights except for on the Olympic platforms. Collars/clips are recommended when using barbells.
- Space may be closed due to weather conditions.
- Stairway exits are for emergency use only.
- Parts or all of space may be used for programming activities. Please stay out of designated areas and be respectful of those activities.
In addition to MizzouRec’s General Guidelines, the following guidelines are to be followed in the Weight Room.
- Avoid sitting on weight machines or benches during resting periods. “Work-in” with others on all strength equipment to optimize the usage of this area.
- Do not drop weights. Collars/clips are recommended when using barbells.
- Barbells must stay within the rack.
- Disinfect each piece of equipment after use with the wipes provided.
- All weights must be re-racked and may not be removed from their original location.
- Lifting chalk is permitted for its intended use only.
- Leaning weights along windows, walls, and mirrors is prohibited.
- Personal training or private instruction is limited to MizzouRec certified staff.
- Use personal equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions and at your own risk.
- Personal equipment must not mark or damage any facilities or equipment.
General
- Users must be at least 18 years of age with a current membership and a valid University of Missouri ID or MizzouRec ID.
- Animals, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed.
- Tops, bottoms, and shoes must be worn at all times inside the building. All shoes must be activity appropriate and have non-marking soles; shoes must be closed-toe and have a covered heel; no boots.
- Personal items & bags are not permitted in active workout spaces.
- MizzouRec is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please secure your belongings in the lockers provided throughout the facility.
- Possession, use, distribution, purchase, or sale of drugs or alcohol within MizzouRec Facilities is prohibited in accordance with the University’s Drugs & Alcohol Standards of Conduct.
- The following are prohibited within MizzouRec facilities:
- Gambling
- Theft
- Streaking
- Mooning
- Public urination
- Solicitation
- External speakers
- Spitting
- Blocking doorways or emergency exits
- Initiating a false fire alarm or refusal to follow evacuation policies
- Possession of weapons
- Mopeds, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and motorized personal vehicles that are not medically necessary
- Food is only allowed in Jungle Lobby and Spirit & Traditions Hallway.
- Members may not enter into any for-profit business agreements that utilize MizzouRec services facilities and equipment.
- Unwanted recording, photography, and other multimedia of members is not permitted in MizzouRec facilities. Formal request for film and or photographic use can be made via our online Media Access Request.
- Users should respect the rights of others within the facility. Disorderly conduct, abuse of the facility, equipment, or staff and/or disregard for the Student Recreation Complex guidelines could result in immediate dismissal from the facility.
- Additional sanctions may include disciplinary action, reimbursement for damages, and/or potential suspension from the facilities and programs.
- Members or guests asked to leave by the staff will not be refunded any paid charges.
- MizzouRec staff reserves the right to implement any rules or guidelines that protect the health, safety and well-being of the facility and its users. Failure to adhere to any of the above guidelines could lead to removal from MizzouRec facilities.
Refund Policies
Cancellation requests for course withdrawals must be received by Mizzou Aquatic Center staff one week prior to the course date in order to obtain a full refund. A 20% administrative fee will be charged for all cancellations less than one week prior to the course. No refunds will be given for individuals who are registered for the course and fail to arrive on the day of the course.
No-charge cancellation for your registration is available up to 3 days prior to the start date of the class. Enrollments cancelled fewer than three days prior to the start date will be charged a 10% administrative fee. Enrollments canceled the day of or after the start date will be charged a 20% administrative fee. If your child is removed for behavioral issues, you will be charged 20% of the remaining class value.
